The Growing Edge

We offer two or three GROWING EDGE RETREATS every year, each limited to 25 participants and co-facilitated by Carrie and Parker.

The Circle of Trust model behind these retreats was developed by Parker, and has been used around the world for the past twenty years by the Center for Courage & Renewal, a nonprofit he helped found. These circles offer a safe space for people to reflect on the deeper questions of their lives in both solitude and community.

More details about Circles of Trust can be found here, and in Parker’s book, A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey Toward an Undivided Life.

Applications begin November 1, 2019

Our March 27-29, 2020 retreat—The Growing Edge: A Journey Into Hope—will offer 25 people an opportunity to explore the growing edge questions in their own lives. Whatever those questions may be—personal, vocational, social-political, or otherwise—the retreat will allow participants to take them in any direction that has meaning for them, at their own pace and depth. We’ll conduct our explorations in large group dialogue, in small groups, and in solitude and silence—prompted by poetry, music, and reflections from Carrie and Parker.

PLEASE NOTE: We’ll post applications for our March 27-29, 2020 Growing Edge Retreat November 1, 2019. We’ll post reminders of this date in our monthly newsletter, and on our professional Facebook Pages. Please check one of those sources for our announcement. We can review only the first 75 applications we receive. We normally reach that number within ten days, so if you are interested in attending, please apply as soon as possible.

We will notify applicants of their admission status no later than January 6, 2020.

The Venue

The Conference Center (350 Constance Blvd., Williams Bay, WI at 262-245-8520) is a restful and restorative site with comfortable private guest rooms, spacious meeting rooms, and an excellent food service. Located on the wooded shores of beautiful Lake Geneva in southern Wisconsin, it’s about an hour away from Milwaukee’s General Mitchell Airport, and about two hours from Chicago’s O’Hare.

“Where can you meet 30 strangers and return home three days later, still in the glow of their warmth, wondering how it was possible in one weekend to have become an open-hearted community? Since I returned from the April Growing Edge retreat, I’ve continued to marvel at the way we came together and the truth that emerged. In circles of trust, through conversation and music, in small groups and large, we explored unique perspectives on the universal human experience of our life’s growing edges. Using spoken words, writings, poetry and original music, Parker and Carrie held sacred space for each one of us. We even captured our meaningful, true connections with one another in a song Carrie helped us write together.”

“Our group gathered for a weekend in a most stunning place, and in that short span Parker and Carrie created a safe space where we risked our vulnerabilities and entered an extraordinary inner journey—listening, learning, sharing, expanding towards our growing edges in our own ways and paces. With trust, honesty, courage, and the use of songs, poems, stories, I left having gone deeper than I ever imagined, often surprised along the way, delighted, inspired and truly honored by the depth of connection we left with. I was able to take this adventure with these lovely, daring souls and know we continue to accompany each other wherever we are, ever towards our growing edges. Thank you for such a treasured opportunity and experience.”
